"No, I don't have any money."

Well, he didn't. Clarence felt a moment of recognition, then a blank place, like so many of the other blank places that crowded his mind. Can a mind be crowded when it's empty?

That thought didn't go anywhere, so he stuck a hand in his pocket and came out with nothing but fuzz.

"See?" he said, extending his hand to show the little ball of cloth fibers. "Nothing but lint."

Jin walked slowly through O'Hare, passing by hundreds of inconsequential individuals. He wore a normal business suit and carried an oversized briefcase. Of course, if any of the many security guards knew a katana blade named Nobunaga was within the briefcase, he would have been tackled twenty times over. It had been a simple matter to use his control over electricity to fool the scanning equipment. Just as it had been easy to manipulate the airplane into arriving just a little faster from Tokyo. He couldn't resist. It always galled him when he had to travel long distances. He was used to arriving through more . . . instananeous means.

A dangerous use of my power. Especially with anti-mutant extremists on the rise. Many were puzzled by the exceptional speed they arrived at their destination. It only takes one person to connect the dots and determine a mutant was at work.

Mutant. Jin loathed that term. Maybe the others who possessed parlor trick powers were mutants. But Jin was descended from Raijin himself. Jin was the God of Thunder. And he intended to make sure the denizens of Chicago worshipped him accordingly.

Arget let his sunglasses drop back down on his nose, and smiled. A bit carefully. "I'm an everything geek, sweetheart. In most people's opinion, there are a lot of things wrong with me, but I don't try to hide most of them."

Perhaps he was talking too much already. No matter. There were any number of fascinating people he could be stalking at the moment, or places to go, but right now she was the most interesting, and for a reason he couldn't quite pin down just now. The very evasiveness of it added to the interest.

"Ah," said Anna. "What?" Realization dawned on her that she was in an alley. With a man who might or might not be the complete stranger she had had a deep conversation with earlier. She began to backpedal, and almost tripped over the boxes supporting the intent cat. Her car seemed miles away. Her wings drifted up, almost of their own accord.

Jan jumped back as the girl with wings tripped back into her box. Letting out a low hiss Jan jumped towards the man in the ally to keep from getting hit by the girls wings. Jan hit his leg digging her claws in to keep her steady she then jumped back as quickly as she could, to keep away from any wrath he may have.

Deep in the factory, Aleric manipulated the simple computers with ease. The devices under him he gave a limited autonomy, inputting tiny amounts of information enough to give them work and some defensive protocols. Honestly, he was surprised these machines could handle much beyond machine code, they were so primitive. Luckily he could program in a language so intuitive to computers it was almost binary, and took up little space in their memory compared to a human program of the same function. Human computing was so... bloated. He almost recoiled his data tendrils in disgust sometimes at the sloppiness of their methods.

He knew he could bring them to their knees, if he really wanted to, but right now he had to escape, get far away from here in order to escape the Aleerins on his tail. He knew they would track him down, eventually, since he had almost brought his own civilization to their downfall through his not insigificant hacking skills.

When he finally finished his bit of programming, he decided to go outside of the factory and relax a little, waiting for the automation to finish gathering materials and create the parts he needed to fix his ship.

"Oh my God!" Clarence shouted, not in anger or terror or anything of that sort, but mostly out of surprise. Bums didn't usually act like these people.

"OH MY GOD!!!!" And bums didn't have wings.

He yelped as something furry and spikey smacked into his shins and spun away, and then hopped backward as quickly as possible, landing in a pile against the brick wall that stood behind him.

"Who ARE you people?!"

It was more of a rhetorical question, but he figured he'd ask anyway.

This one had none of the dignity of...his brother? His fated shadow? Some guy who happened to be mistaken for him? He was absolutely freaking out. He wasn't cursing, though, and that was unusual.

"I'm Anna!" Was she blushing? She felt idiotic. "I talked to you earlier!" She wasn't running away, though, which surprised her. "Or did I? Look, if you don't know me, I'll just leave--"

Why had he said you people? The alley cat had acted predictably, finally.

The orcs appear in the train station out of nowhere. Gauroth knew they would be wisked back to Middle Earth in a time span; this went according to plan. No evidence, from those who survived...and the spies could see from this city a slice of the state of things on Terra.

(to the RPers in the train station: You can see ten orcs and four Uruk-Hai, wielding those crude swords. They'll attack anyone. Pwn them.)

Jan hid in a near by box *whery of Anna's wings* she curled up and listened to the two, realizing right away that neither knew the other. The mans response to wings on a girl, and a scared cat on his leg, was not what Jan had expected, it was the answer of a good man at heart, not exactly what you would hear from someone in a dirty ally, but these where strange times all around.

"T-talked? Earlier?"

Oh, God no. Not again.

This definitely rated right up there with one of his most interesting (and terrifying) wake-up experiences. In fact, it was downright weird.

The last place Clarence remembered being was in the shelter this morning. He had walked outside, and stopped by a... a service station. And then... and then.... He put his head in his hands, but only for a moment.

But... but if this girl.... if she had talked to him? Maybe she knew something. He sure didn't.

Clarence stood up awkwardly, and rubbed his eyes.

"What... what..." He couldn't remember. He remembered... remembered a moment, before he opened his eyes in the alley, where someone.... no. There was nothing. Or just a hint of... something.

He started again, hoping for a hint of something that would release the flood of memories, but didn't hope too hard. Quietly... "What did I say?"

"Uhm, he gave me advice and--" Then logic kicked in and she pointed a clawed finger at him, in case he was a mugger or who-knows-what. She wanted to curl up around her own stupidity and die, or perhaps kill something, for making the mistake between one person and another--between people she thought could finally lead her on paths...nonexistant.

"You're not him, are you?"

He just didn't remember. Usually, that didn't frustrate him -- he'd learned to get over frustration pretty fast, or at least pretend that he wasn't bothered when he showed up in strange places that he didn't really belong.

But, still. He had the feeling that something was important (of course he did, that was always there...), and he was missing it. Unlike the other feelings, this one came whenever the girl with the wings... Anna?.... WINGS?!?

"I... don't think so."

He paused. This is more awkward than usual.

"I mean... I don't know. It... may have been me. I just... I...."

Another pause. Ahhh. Then, very quietly, "I just don't remember."

((What is it with the awkward conversations? My characters are just awkward. ^^))

A storm of sounds began to decend upon the city of Chicago as a red blur on I-94 whipped in and out of traffic at speeds excessing 180mph. To the cars being left behind by this beautiful splash of red of paint that was zooming by them, all that was heard was a loud stereo system playing the typical music of modern day teens mixed with a pair of duel pipes rumbling upon the crowded interstate as the 07 Shelby GT-500 passed by, letting it's horses run free.

Inside this very Mustang of a car, the driver known as Jacob Samuels, who was known to most as Techno, was blaring away his radio in a state of pure ecstasy. With each downshift the car's transmission made, the pipes would growl with the power it held as it whipped by yet another car in it's journey to a small lakefront warehouse the young Cajun had bought when he left New Orleans after Katrina.

The car, which drove like a simple extentsion of it's driver's state of mind exited the interstate, turning on one of it's many streets which led to the warehouse, it's back tires overpowering as it slide sideways as it made it's turn before straightening it's self out. Now rolloing under a 100mph, it picks back up, the pipes still growling as Scarlett, which Jacob had named the car after it's color and relation to an old southern movie of yesteryear, speed away from it's simple turn.

The driver himself was a young mutant, a technopath to be precise, from the southern state of Louisiana, a raging cajun if you will. The Grandson of a farmer, and a son of lawyer, this young cajun was unaware of the future his life would hold. Depressed from the death of his sister which he felt he should have been there to stop and holding the feeling of an outsider because of his mutant powers, he delved heavily in a drug had worked well to kill his inner pains for the last five years.

This future mage of time lived his life at the edge twenty three hours of a day, only sleeping when his body began to shut down from keeping his past exactly where it was meant to be as he clubbed every night in and out of the city, wherever his job as a master of techno brought him. Popping yet another tab into his mouth and reaching over for his bottle of orange juice, he slowed down Scarlett and turned into the lakefront warehouse.

All went quiet save for the sounds of sirens that had tried to follow but were left behind as well, as Scarlett's motor died from the flip of her switch, and Jacob stepped out of her red shadow. Closing the large door behind him, he locked the place up and headed up the metallic stairs toward his small upstairs home. As he entered, Jacob threw his keys on the table and turned on his home stereo, cranked it up, and laid back on his bed.

Tears of his past still flowed down his cheeks as he thought for just a moment of Sky, her smile always lightening up his world him even after her death. A few moments later, Jacob is dead to the world as he slips off into a deep three day sleep. His dreams?....... memories of a life before.

(Yeah, Dun, it'd be nice if mine had some motivation too. lol, now I know why most characters are so blasted self sufficient.)

He wasn't attacking her or leaving. This probably meant Anna had not in fact commited the grievous error of incorrectly recognizing him. Her voice softened as if she were talking to a kitten. "You're schizophrenic, aren't you? Why don't you see a doctor about that? Heh, you were much calmer last time." Some mannerisms, though, remained the same. Now he was a differnt kind of awkward and too big for his body.

Well, that would certainly explain some things...

He knew he should probably take that as an insult -- any such comments usually aimed at him were tainted in that way -- but at the moment he was having difficulty caring.

"Doctors?" That brought an uncomfortable laugh. "My parents tried that. They -- the doctors -- said there was absolutely nothing wrong with me."

But, thought Clarence, with the first real bitterness he'd felt in a long time, they were obviously wrong, weren't they? Otherwise I wouldn't be wandering around Chicago like a vagrant.

He laughed again. "Apparently they were wrong, however. I have no idea where I am."

Jin took a conventional taxi to his hotel. Again, an interminable trip, but Jin had taken to being very careful with how he used his skills. Publicity was not what he needed right now. He needed complete anonymity. Jin waved off the help as he moved to the front desk. It would not do for anyone to accidentally spill the contents of his large oversized briefcase. Jin gave the clerk a fake credit card. He stared at the reader as the card was swiped, tendrils of invisible electricity altering the machine, forcing it to the card as valid. Jin offered the clerk no smile as he returned it.

"Here you are Mr. Shotoku. Room 112."

Jin entered the elevator. He waved off all who tried to enter. When the doors closed Jin teleported to his room in a brilliant flash. He had no fear of cameras. Any cameras trained on him would immediately go fuzzy. It was a side effect of his powers. Unfortunately, it also interferred with any TV watching he might try to do in his room. Jin appeared in a flash in Room 112. He hung a do not disturb sign outside. Jin didn't think he would have time for any TV watching anyway as he opened the briefcase to the beautiful Katana blade within.

"It's okay. You're in Chicago. You were before too--I mean, your other, ah, the other guy. He just talked to me. You know where Chicago is right?" She hoped she wasn't blathering. The whole event were going back to the knife-edge clairty of reality instead of having any feeling of dreaming. This man was not a mutant. He was mentally sick, and possibly from a really poor family who couldn't get him a real doctor.

He was acting very calm around her. Maybe he didn't know where Chicago was or what was going on with the mutants worldwide.

"No... I know Chicago.... I mean...."

I mean I'm an idiot and I don't even know what's wrong with me, but I don't think I'm schizophrenic because aren't schizophrenic's supposed to be paranoid? and if I were schizophrenic wouldn't I be running down the alley screaming about government conspiracies involving mutant girls with wings trying to take over my mind? If one could cough mentally, Clarence would have. Well, at least I kept all that to myself....

He shuffled his feet around a little too much, and knocked his elbow into the brick wall behind him. "Ouch... what I meant to say was, " he began again, rubbing the offending appendage, "that I do know where I am, as in Chicago, I just don't know where I am, as in the alley."

Another thought stuck in his head amidst the torrent of questions that he usually had to endure, and he scratched his head. "Was someone... chasing you?"

Eheh. Right.

"I mean, because you ran in here, and all...."

((Whoooooooooops... sorry for taking so long to post. ^^'))

Anime geek, my arse... Raiyn rolled her eyes. But she wasn't given time to respond. There were orcs in the train station, and these ones didn't look like cosplayers.

An impossibility? Perhaps. But mutants never thought anything impossible. They weilded crude swords and attacked anything in their path, creating havoc even in the smaller amount of people gathered in the train station.

If someone didn't react, pretty quick there'd be no survivors left to make a report--or respond. She waved at Arget before sliding a small handgun from her purse, checking its state. Four shots. She had a couple more bullets... fourteen Urak-hai. Better make every shot count, then. "Want to be heroes, anime boy?"

Jin ran his hand over the blade. He knew he had a hard road ahead. But he was full prepared to take his rightful place. It was the path demanded by his ancestors. It was his birthright. He would rise to his proper status here, and transfer that power back to his homeland. Destiny beckoned. Jin sheathed the blade, and wrapped it around his robed form. He looked out at the Chicago skyline. Jin's hand began to drift back toward his blade. He spun around drawing his katana at the sound of a voice. Jin saw no one.

"Show yourself."

I know I heard someone speaking. Perhaps I am picking up interference again.

Occasionally the electronic field he emitted would pick up radio signals. Jin was apparently picking up just such a signal now. He calmed his beating heart. The sound crackled all around him, there was no doubt of its source. It was a very strange feeling to hear the sound of a radio or television when neither were in sight, even for someone used to such strange occurrences.

"Strange creatures . . . . all units . . . . train station."

Well, that's not the kind of signal you pick up every day. A fortunate stroke of luck. This may be just the introduction I am looking for. A chance to gather followers.

Or at least a chance to hold off his boredom. Jin disappeared in a flash of light. In an instant, he appeared at the train station. He was greeted by chaos. People were running everywhere. In the midst of them, he saw a strange armed figure. But the more interesting creatures lay in front of her, indiscriminantely cutting down civilians. Jin still held his katana before him. He slowly approached the monsters. He did not think they were normal mutants. It wasn't common for such hideous mutations to exist, certainly not among a multitude of people at one time.

"I am in need of allies- "

The creature either couldn't understand him, or didn't care. In retrospect, it was not his most intelligent moment. The bolt of a crossbow flew straight toward his heart. Jin deflected it in surprise. Before long, two of the monsters were bearing down on him. Jin crossed blades with the first creature. With surprising strength it thrust him backwards, sliding near the tracks. Jin was quickly rolling onto his feet, but he had stumbled into something quite unexpected.

Perhaps I should just flee. This is not work for one such as myself. On the other hand, this may yet prove a useful encounter should I help those fighting these creatures. A show of force may be what I need.

Jin was also extremely interested in where exactly they came from, but for now there was work to do. The disgusting monsters advanced on him with alarming speed. Jin closed his eyes. When a samurai was committed, he fought until either his opponents were dead, or he himself crossed into the next world. There would be no surrender. The creatures were oblivious to his words, but he spoke anyway,

"Let us fight and die with honor."

The air began to crackle around the Thunder Samurai.

(I hope you don't mind me jumping in with you guys Tiana.)

((Huzzah, some action!))

"Oh, please just call me Silver, as you were." Arget's eyebrows rose as he removed his sunglasses from his face, folding them up and tucking them away in a pocket that seemed to vanish shortly thereafter as he narrowed his eyes against the sunlight, taking in the orcish spectacle. "I've never made much of a point of being a hero, but I could make a small exception for an interruption out of Gorgoroth. Are you in the hero business at all?" he inquired before darting off the short distance toward the creatures, focusing on the Uruk-hai.

The unusual part is, he thought, taking note of the recently-arrived samurai who seemed to be undergoing a recruitment pitch, I've seen all these interesting things together in the same day.

Well, first things first. Orcs were beefy; Uruk-hai were beefier. A pecking order often went along with these matters. Arget dodged the first sword swing easily, catching a whiff of the attacker as he cartwheeled by. Phew. Not biting these unless I have to. There was also the matter of the most recent arrival drawing on electricity. Arget could smell the ozone, and the fine hairs on the back of his neck stood on end with the burgeoning charges. It was time to be a little over to the left, he decided, nimbly slipping through two of the Uruk-hai as they mutually attempted to bisect him, one of them mysteriously losing its grip on its sword in the process.

Soon after, it lost its head.

"Let's make this quick," Arget called over to the two who were presumably working toward the same short-term goal as he, and flicked a little ichor off his newly acquired weapon as he swung back in toward the Uruk-hai. "Cops can be pesky to deal with."
