The world was starting to whirl in a most upsetting way, contrasting with the pleasure of her contact in a way that he felt might make his mind burst apart. Her words tunnelled into his ear, only barely registering.

Too close. He could smell the red underneath her skin.

He could worry about why he cared so much at a later point in time.

"Get up, back off, stand still," he whispered, and dared not move. "Hurry."

"Nah, at least if I'm here I can kick you in the nuts a lot easier if you try biting me than if I'm standing still," Raiyn offered cheerfully. But she had a strange look in her eyes, this eerie, almost suicidal expression. A mad glint.

"Your eyes are glowing, you crave blood and I probably won't be alive in five minutes to talk about how simply facinating this is... amazing, isn't it? The first person I've had a decent conversation with in a year and he's probably going to kill me..."

And it might have ended that way, too, had one of the remaining orcs NOT slammed its sword down in the general vincinity of Raiyn's head. She rolled on instinct, forgetting that there wasn't pavement where there should have been--and found herself dangling metres above boiling hot magma (not manga, incidentially), the only thing preventing her from plumetting into its deep, boiling, roiling, steaming, horrendously heat saturated, flesh consuming depths was one hand holding tight onto Arget's sleeve, the other clutching desperately at the unmelty rock.

He was a lot faster once he went animalistic.

There wasn't a chance she'd be able to hold on to merely his sleeve for much longer, as things were – oh yes, and the raging orc bringing its weapon up to bear again, this time over Arget. No time to think fast, and the power of thought had fled him besides; now it was just doing.

He snapped his wrist around in one quick motion, snaring her hand in his fingers before trapping it with the other hand as well, and then pulled with a roll. She came up and over the edge with enough speed to fly over him and he released his grip at her apex.

She would probably have the instincts to land in a roll.

Arget continued his own motion, not stopping for an instant, permitting the orc's weapon to smash into the ground where he had been only an instant before. The orc's momentum spent, he leaped up with a snarl, apprehending the sword and swinging it through the creature's neck in a blur.

Nothing of which particularly helped his bloodlust.

Sure enough, she hit the ground rolling and flung herself back to her feet, stumbling a little. Now she no longer had Arget pinned, but she was also no longer about to plummet to a horrible death.

...Orc blood, she thought, and started laughing hysterically, even though there was a dead orc and a vampire and a bunch of magma and a forest in the middle of the city of Chigago now. Who knew what else there was? Demons? Dragons? Dark Lords?

It was just so very wrong.

Perhaps unfortunately, he was not a desperate vampire these days, and had no reason to snap at anything that moved. As a general rule, a human wouldn't prefer a bowl of mealworms over a delectable triple chocolate trifle with strawberries in. And if orcs were to be bowls of mealworms...

Arget's red-eyed attention flicked back to Raiyn.

...Then Raiyn was a furious woman with a gun that still had one shot left.

She flicked the safety off the handgun she had carried since the beginning of the scene, aiming at him.

"Your turn to run."

((OMGOMGOMGOMG. Oh, my, God. I think I just died of laughter. Ouch. Ohhhhhhh. I'm done. LMFAO, anyone?))

If Damon had been able to see through the waves of heat and spurts of flame, he might have wtfed right along with the rest of the world. He might have, if he had known what wtf meant.

As it stood, he had his hands full enough with things on his own side of the chasm.

Suddenly, his narrator had a dramatic case of writer's block, and was strongly tempted to toss him into the flaming depths. Luckily, she rather likes Damon, and didn't really want to turn him into charcoal. Lucky Damon.

While she was attempting to think up a clever situation involving pedestrians and ice, Damon's concentration on the chasm was broken by an ear-piercing shriek and the scream of metal (that sounded strangely like the opening of a particularly obnoxious Rob Zombie song).

He didn't know what it was. But it was loud.

((And now I need to go to class. Hah. Finish this later. ))

And hurtling right at his head.

The 'it' in question happened to be a car. If he had been thinking about the physics of everything, there wasn't much of an explanation as to why the car was hurtling toward him, and the chasm that should be pushing things away, instead of sucking them in.

If he would have been paying attention to the street behind him, he would have seen a pipeline below the street exploding from the sheer heat of the inferno below. But he wasn't.

There was only the car.

He had the time to notice that it was a Chevy Caprice. Then to drop to the ground, arms extended above his head and a good portion of his energy extended into a shield forged of wind. The Way tore down his arms and out of the palms of his hands from the core of his body, ricocheting the car over his head and into the chasm below.

As he expelled his breath, he let go of the shield and rolled to his feet, and thought of how ineffectual he was in the grand scheme of things.

Distance and intense noise left Laney's questions unheard. Fortunately, the closer she came to the flaming chaos the less important the answers to those questions became. Life was warm, pleasant...exciting. So different. She smiled. Wait...

The ground was shaking. But this is GOOD the way it WAS! Just when I get comfortable... The Flying Car was a push too far. Her eyes sparked rage at destruction, at absurdity heaped upon insanity. I just don't do this very well. I'm just tired of... Her mind suddenly caught up with her feet. More screaming, more roar of flame, more rush of.....something. Something strange... Whispers in her mind. The heat-rippled air was a magnifying glass. There are people in there.

I just don't do this.....stop. Stop. STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP!

"GET AWAY FROM ME!" The scream echoed oddly in her ears before falling to the ground in roaring blackness. She fell in fullness of dark moments until.....blackened circle, ring of ash, flames' hushed whisper walled on every side. She lay, shivering. This is really weird...

Ohhhh, snap.

Arget froze like a deer in headlights, which was particularly unusual while he was in this state. Normally he was less a plain old deer, more a deer with strangely long canines and glowing red eyes and an unhealthy penchant for blood... actually, never mind, we're going to drop that comparison right there and leave it to die a humane death.

The metallic screech and subsequent explosion coming from beyond the chasm sent a flinch through him, but his attention didn't turn from Raiyn.

The bullet would hurt, just a little. He would be writhing on the ground and perhaps unconscious for a good while. The token part of him that remembered how these things worked wasn't gone yet, and slowly started building momentum, hauling rational thought back into the mainstream of his mind (though with some difficulty, since rational thought had derailed into molasses just a minute ago).

wait, it said.

wait

wait

wait

It isn't polite to bite a lady.

She had mentioned something about running, hadn't she?

He turned to flee, his foot snagging on the fallen orc only a step later, sending him sprawling on the pavement. "Uuuuuuggggghhhhhhh."

Classy.

(Sorry it's been so long. Apologies if I've missed anything.)

The world had just exploded into a maelstrom of fire, chasms, cars, and bad stares into the eyes of bad vampires. Anna shook her head, targeted the one person she could sort of depend on (is it sad that that happens to be Damon?) and ran after him to the edge of the chasm of fiery doom.

She had not had much luck before. A main part of her personality makeup came from the fact that her life was boring and luckless. Suddenly it became a whole lot more luckness and a whole lot less boring. She tripped, stumbling over the laces of her Converse, and when her hands hit the pavement it was the buckled, sloping pavement at the end of the ravine.

The weight of her wings flipped her head-over-tail. She crashed on her back and rolled--down the slope into the heat.

((We're all so very graceful.))

Lots of strange energies here, all of the sudden....

That was the outstanding thought echoing in Damon's mind as tendrils of the Way shot back out of his shield to coil about his arms and meet between his shoulder blades with the sensation of ice water poured down one's back in the wee hours of the morning.

He reveled for a moment in the sensation of life tearing through his being as he leapt to his feet, and then all his attention was focused on the figure tumbling by him in a flurry of limbs and wings, then Clarence's voice shouting

Stop!!

in the back of his head.

He thought the soundtrack for this day should be something like 36 Crazyfists. Lots of drive and screaming.

Then he threw himself into motion, adrenaline coursing through his blood in synch with the pulsing of the Way. Something back in his subconscious reminded him that if he overdid it, he'd burn himself to a crisp without any help from the fire raging below, but he found it hard to care.

He was aware of his feet scraping on the pavement, sliding at it sloped downward, skidding as he slowed to something of a stop and extended his left arm, pulling the air pulsing out of the chasm ([i]how dramatic for an afternoon in Chicago....) and pushing it back toward the tumbling girl to slow her movements and keep her from shooting out into the flaming forest.

By the time he'd come to a complete stop he was in a crouch, left arm still extended, and right hand trailing the pavement behind him. He half-hoped he's left a trail of dust, just because that would look pretty dang cool.

There's no thought involved.

She's screaming, hurting with the fall, and then her wings extend and cup and warm air. She flaps. Her body arcs and the wind slips past the wings, she begins to drop again--but she leans forward and tucks her arms and legs in as her wings flap, almost of their own accord, but completely controlled by a part of her she never recognized before.

She soars on the gust of wind she does not know her ally created.

She has no idea how to get down, and for a moment fear overwhemls triumph.

But only for a moment.

She's still not sure how to turn around, or whether to trust herself to move.

Raiyn stared at him for one of those moments.

You know. One of those moments. The ones that last forever and ever and ever and don't seem to stop even though you want them to.

She was facing a vampire.

With a gun.

A bloody (what?) gun!

Her hands twitched.

Then something in her mind snapped.

"This shot... is not for you," she snarled, and holstered her gun.

Or the dead orc.

"Not for me...?" Arget mumbled at the pavement, not yet ready to move.

Who's it for, then? Has she got some sort of vendetta?

Shut up,
he tried to tell the overbearingly inquisitive voice in his head. It never really did shut up, and so he could hardly expect it to now, even after a near-death situation.

Especially after a near-death situation.

Although he wouldn't have died. But that was a relatively minor technicality.

He finally decided to get on with it and turn his head to the side, looking up at her. Getting off the ground could come later. It was a much lesser distance to fall when one was already there.

"Who's it for?"

Maybe a little bold, but not like it'd hurt at this point. Too much.

I dunno... it was just a quirky geek quote... it's not like I meant anything real by it...

Raiyn eyed her gun, sitting in a holster she hadn't even had before--so maybe it was in her purse, aw, screw it, it's been a year since I made this character anyway, you can't actually expect me to remember anything about her equips, seriously, guys...

"I don't know..." She stared around blankly at the chaos. "Your mom? That sounds like a good comeback right about now. Yeah. Okay. Your mom!"

He was about to rebut "No, your mom!" when he remembered that even though the bullet was apparently not for him, it was perhaps still not the best of ideas with a gun around that wasn't at his side.

Maybe she'd feel a little better if it seemed as though she'd inflicted a little something, at least. "That was deeply wounding. Uhm..." Arget slowly sat up, withdrew a cigarette from a pocket, and started edging toward the sinkhole most epic, all the while taking pains to ensure his tone was of the utmost sincerity. "I'd ask if you wanted to come along so we could both cool down a bit over drinks, except for the lava. You know."

As lighters went, it could have been a bit more... tame. But it seemed to serve all right. Arget lightly touched the end of the cigarette to one of the smaller gouts of magma that had landed on the pavement and was rewarded by immediate smouldering. Satisfied with that, at least, he began to edge back away. Maybe his luck was improving, just a little bit. Things did generally have a nasty tendency to happen to him against all odds, and so he thought that if the flying girl some distance away actually managed not to land on him, matters would definitely be improving all 'round.

"Oh, fine. Go jump into the lava. It's all the same to me," she muttered, heading back down the street. Looked like all the random orcs were dead now--of course, so was half the street. It wasn't exactly epic. It was really more gross. "It's not like I meant anything by it."

((I missed j00! It's been a while...as was mentioned, I forgot some details of this game, but I'm desperate to get back in. So, I presume Tiana's character, and Arget, are on the street with Dun and I now? I'm gonna work with that assumption...))

Anna waved her arms. To her amazement, flying and the frantic waving of arms were not mutually exclusive. Perhaps because both were mostly unconcious actitons, they worked in a sort of harmony.

Which meant that Anna, scared out of her mind, delirious with happiness, and every other gradient of crazy, gesticulated and flapped her way over the solid street, between the two serious-looking people who had descended from the train station. Running into someone was probably not a good idea--she crudely tipped one wing and sortof forced the other one to stop, and landed heavily on her hands and feet on the pavement, right in front of one of said serious people.

Who appeared to have a gun.

But it wasn't normal. Nothing about these two were. Their trappings, their eyes, their clothes from brand names she had never heard of (OOC sorry, as Tiana said it's been a year and I don't know what your chars look like exactly, but they're someone wierd for Anna to freak out about!), screamed unusual. That possibly, in this situation, meant that they knew what was going on.

It also meant that the explosion and the flying were real, or at least it did if it didn't mean that Anna's hallucinations weren't getting complicated enough that she'd want to remember them to write down and make into a novel, or at least into a few RPG characters. It meant that her life meant something.

So she sat on the ground in front of the woman and started to tear up. Instead, somehow, because now it was meta-destiny that compelled her, she said, "Hello. You look..." and then, because aquiring superpowers definitly doesn't also give the recipient instant people skills, she continued with "Familiar. Have I seen you around? Saturday night D&D? Or flyers for Xavier's School?)

((lol at D&D....))

While his narrator was busy trying to remember how to write him in a situation which didn't include Sasha, Damon was busy trying to remember what exactly it was he was doing. Since it had been a really long time since he remembered doing anything.

"Oh, yeah. Fire, cars, flying... people........"

Since that was all he had, he proceeded to inhale a whole lot of ash and cough his lungs out onto the pavement.

Figuratively speaking, of course.

Aleric watched the explosions, flying cars, and flames with a sense of detachment. Indeed, it would appear that things here were somewhat unusual. His ship's sensors alerted him to the fact that space-time was somewhat... loose... here.

The Aleerin continued to watch the battle unfold, listening to the conversations with his small robot.

And then, it struck him; he could use some... allies... to help him out. At least, if they believed him.

He entered the factory and ordered his machines to begin work at once on a flame-resistant armoured suit.

Within minutes, Aleric's mechanical minions had created a crude but effective suit of armour, up to Mechalus standards. He donned the suit and connected to it, enmeshing himself in its circuitry and powering it up. The suit wouldn't be anything near a current body tank, but it should stand up to the flame and weapons of these primitives.

He closed the suit and then ran it towards the the street upon which his targets were conversing and fighting. Perhaps he could convince them to become allies...

(The suit is like the Iron Man Mk II suit... it's leaner than a normal powered armour, but it is also slow and can't fly. But it is fire-resistant.)
