^.^

What, we didn't already have a Star Wars general thread?! o_o

TALK. TALK. TAAAAAAAAALK.

(cough)

Well, I like the OT better, but unlike most people, I don't hate the NT either... I kinda liked The Phantom Menace and RotS... >.>

I thought the RotS was even ok, the other two were nasty. And they had Jar Jar in them.

OT all the way!!! Wink

I can't take them seriously. They make me... laugh is a very simple word. Ehh. We got dirty looks when we saw RotS in the theatre. Snrk. Being the only ones laughing during the "NOO!!" scene..... *ehem*

They all make me laugh. My serious button is broken.

I agree with what Tiana said. TPM would annoy me a lot more than it does if it didn't have Darth Maul in it. AotC is my least favorite by quite a lot, although that's the first one I ever saw. I got into SW fairly recently, when I was about 13. I collect swag and all that, preferably stuff from before I was born. Smile

I think... ah, yes, the first Star Wars I ever really watched was the last half of RotJ. Heck of a way to start. Snrk. So alas, ESB (which is still my very favourite, though RotJ ranks close behind) never really had any surprises for me, but that was all right. I think it was the last epic duel between Luke and Vader that hooked me. I can't remember how old I was... oh yeah, I think Dad had rented the Special Edition just after it had come out onto video, so that was what, '96? From that point I wasn't really a fan so much as someone who just liked Star Wars, and then around 2000 I started getting into it more.

Don't worry, Dûn, you and your peoples aren't the only ones who laughed... it was hilarious. And a big disappointment just about on par with, dare I say it, all the bad points of AotC. I have to say, that one's my least favourite also, but it had its moments too. Like the Wilhelm scream. XD

Mom and I were dying laughing in the Padme/Anakin on Mustafar scene... ^.^ ANYWAY.

TPM would annoy me a lot more if I hadn't watched it first when I was 10... and now... it's Quiggy and Maul FTW. Ironically, the only two characters I remembered two years after first watching it. Razz

Heh.

When we saw TPM, I was in love with Qui-gon, and my brother was in love with Maul. (don't ask how that works..) That is, until my dad told him that Maul was practically the devil. "He has horns!!"

*dies*

I don't suppose he'll ever get stuff like that... but it gives the rest of us a laugh, so we let him bask in his ignorance. Mr. Green

Aww.

It's okay. Mom and Dad were talking after TPM and mom asked why Luke's name was Anakin and dad said "No, that's his father. Darth Vader?" "Ohh". So, um, yeah.

I watched TPM, then AotC when they both came out. Sometime later I watched ANH, but not all of it... then I watched RotJ, and the rest of ANH, and ESB. It sort of killed the experience. I also read Children of the Jedi as well as the first JA book and I think Traitor and a couple other random OR books before I had watched all of the Star Wars movies. I started NJO with Traitor. BAAAAAAAAAD.

(explodes)

Somehow, though, I'm still a fan... ^.^'

And Qui-Gon is awesome. Twisted Evil

Okay, I think we've got a pretty loyal Qui-Gon following here. XD I've said this before to Tiana: he's like an uncle figure to me. He's a whole lot of awesome.

Speaking of a whole lot of awesome: CLICKY.

Because OMG I want one. o_o To go to school in. EVERY SINGLE DAY.

o_o

WANT ONE.

(dies)

We should make a Qui-Gon thread. Heh. YOU GUYS need to start making threads. I'm tired of starting all of the new ones, and we need threads to post in... (dies)

Eh. I've always sucked at thread making. All of my experiences at the Barrow-Downs scared any talent for it out of me. No creativity... Embarassed

Boing. Onomatopeia... snrk. I don't think I want one. I think I NEED one...

Has anyone read the newest Star Wars book, Sacrifice, or at least heard about the timely demise of Cy's least favorite character?

I do believe that they need to stop writing SW books into the future, though. Certain non-dead heroes have gone through too much.

Agreed... they've milked this cow way too much. So much that the cow's turned inside-out. What I might find interesting, instead of continuing to feed this raging EU monstrosity, is a little AU dabbling with some of the most prominent SW writers... nothing too extensive, just out of curiosity, really. The kinds of "what ifs" that they'd concoct.

Yeah, I heard. A nice reviewer to my last fic on FF.net spoiled it for me... not like I really cared... oh man. I can't be quiet about this. I haven't read the book, or heck, anything past the Bug Wars, and this is why.

SPOILERS AHEAD! Highlight to read...

Starting from here.

Oh! What the BLOODY HECK were they thinking?! Sure, Mara's never been my favorite character! But... but...

THE FREAKING HECK!

I'd swear more about it, but I really don't feel like it. >< Good gravy. Jacen kills Mara? For one thing, Jacen is the furthest thing from evil. EVER. Dudes and authors, reread Kevin J. Anderson's books and all the other ones with the slightly younger twins. Jacen was a kindhearted, thoughtful, peaceful character. Violent? I think NOT! Now, Anakin (Skywalker) was a passionate, forceful character.

His turn to the dark side, killing (or trying to) Obi-Wan... it was painful, and... most of all, BELIEVABLE. You saw him fall into his darkness. He grew OBSESSED. But from the start, in TPM, you saw this. He was obsessive, fanatical, passionate, and dark. There was a shadow looming over him as a ten year old kid.

Jacen?

I BLOODY THINK NOT! Now, Jaina, I could believe a turn to the dark side. Heck, Mara too. They were both passionate, obssessive characters. Jacen was too grounded for me to believe he would turn that far. Heh, I might read the books if I ever see them in the library, but I don't like it. It feels like a bad fanfiction. Vergere wasn't evil. I think some author just totally misinterpeted what they saw there. Jacen wasn't evil. She wasn't dark. Gray is not dark. It's... oh, fine. My Jedi.net RP main was a Jedi who started out as gray. She's a Sith now. Maybe anyone who tries be neutral turns dark. But I find it hard to believe that Jacen would've gone... oh... gah.

You know, the fact that hate this almost makes me want to read it...

But I agree. They need to stop writing Statr Wars books into the future. The Bug Wars books hurt enough. I stopped when they started referencing the NT through Artoo, even though I own all three books. Oh, and that kid. >< MARY SUE NAME ALERT. (dies)

Okay, I'm done spoilering. Suffice it to say, I agree. Stop writing into the future, or write WAY into the future, after they're ALL dead.

All.

WITH NO TRACES LEFT.

If anything, I agree with Jandalf. I wouldn't mind seeing a few AUs. The AU comic series was facinating. And I'd like to see way back in time. Pre KotOR era.

And I want to see new authors. Star Wars is just getting ruined for me, the things they're doing. They're stretching these main characters too far. I want to see stories with characters I've never heard of. Oh, why did they have to cancel the Plagueus novel... sigh. I don't even want to read the Bane novel.

(sighs)

We should probably make threads for these seperate topics, though... oh well. Good for now.

They ...
They....
They......
They killed Mara???
OMG....
I don't know whether to cry... or rejoice...
I stopped reading the books after the Killik wars... Maybe I shouldn't've

*rejoices*

I agree about Jacen. (What was his new name, does anybody know?) In the beginning he was an animal-loving pure-hearted kid. Matthew Stover's treatment of him and Vergere in Traitor--which I have not read, but I know the jist and Stover's style--probably confused whoever decided to turn Jacen dark, honestly. It was an intelligent, psychological sequence, and the easy thing to do with that is to say 'He becomes Sith!!'instead of maybe doing some research and, while making him not quite normal, keeping him lightside.

(T, that reviewer was the same one that made me know this. Not too smart, but they made my day...)

I agree with going in the direction of not forward, but back into KOTOR era or sideways, into AUs or stories of people not connected to the heroes, such as the proposed Television shows do.

It's not that I mind a hero dying, it's the spoiler of WHY and HOW, you know. -_- Personally, I'd like Luke to die... overused... anyway.

And yep. You sum up Traitor. I mean, it could confuse anyone who doesn't... try think that way. I LIKE Stover's style. It was a compliment to have someone remark that my style of writing reminded them of him. And you're right. It would have confused anyone who didn't do their research, which, by the way--all the new Star Wars books scream of no research. I still have yet to finish those Bug War books, even though I loved the writing style...

I'm not going any further. I don't like it. Gray does not mean dark. The side of the Force VERGERE embraced was NOT SITH. I don't care what some authors are saying, that she was a Sith--she's not. They didn't do their research. She was a Jedi who chose a different... viewpoint. Ah well. I haven't been so fanatical over Star Wars lately, and the overdone carrying on over it is probably what's driving me that way...

I don't know. Perhaps Jacen turning dark was written intelligently and believably, and in which case perhaps... PERHAPS I'll enjoy it and read it. But from what I saw of him in the beginning of the bug books there... he was a confused boy at the beginning. That was right. But then... he started screwing up. It wasn't right. (I haven't touched the books in ages, forgive me if I'm wrong in remembering) His leaving the Jedi and searching for other orders that might have been more right... but Sith? He was already feeling OOC halfway through that first book. Heh, most of them felt OOC in that book...

Oh well.

They'd have to handle that sensatively for me to approve it. (Not that my approval matters...WOE!) I believe that almost everyone since Kevin J Anderson in the Jedi Academy books has treatedly Luke's character wrongly, probably b/c they don't know what to do with him. Why the trend of making him a wimp?

Quote:

Me too; I didn't mean they were confusing in a bad way. They were confusing in a smart way, which everyone needs more of.

Quote:

According to the Amazon.com reviewers, Kathy Tyers really didn't. She spent too much time on her pet project Boba Fett, who apparently has a wife and female descendants now. Ah, a new word emerges: Fettsue. As if we didn't have enough kickbutt perfect girls already. *COUGHMARACOUGH*

I don't feel unfanatical about Star Wars, because if I want to I can forget about this new nonsense and go write fics about my happy place, the Rebellion. But there is such a thing as getting too emotional, and when the Lucasworks people get me irritated I feel dislike toward marketing in general. Sometimes it's too much and you gotta get out under the unbrella (or mushroom cloud) of canon and brandname.

All I know is, I saw the trailer today, and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I guess Im not all that critical in a lot of ways, but all I was thinking was that the idea of going to a theater to see a new Star Wars movie is kind of neat. So Ill be going to see it.

And all the kids in the theater seemed to be excited, so that may be a good sign.
